Sushi Etiquette : The Correct Way of Eating Sushi

I love sushi. Perhaps is the beautiful marriage of fresh fish and grainy goodness that keeps me coming back for more. Being an ardent sushi eater, I was surprised to find out that I have been breaking some of the important sushi eating rules.

Did you know that you are not supposed to mix wasabi with soy sauce? (Hmmm...I wonder who came out with this idea of mixing it together). Also, never ever rub your chopsticks against each other to remove splinters. It is extremely rude. (Really?? Not even for safety reason?).

  11. Haha I'm proud to say I don't mix my wasabi and sauce..but only because I don't use wasabi! It's the first thing Wendy does when we sit down at a Jap restaurant though! Aiyo but I'm guilty of nearly everything else including biting sushi in half. How to eat such expensive things in one mouthful? :(

  12. Oo... didnt know about not mixing wasabi with soy sauce... but then again, most Japanese restaurants should actually be smearing the wasabi in the sushi so we dont really need it for dipping....guess its localized over here in Msia...

The way I eat sushi depends on my mood... hehehe soemtimes I go chopsticks, sometimes I just chuck it and use my hands... hehehe :P

  13. I am guilty of not eating sushi the right way. My parents have always mixed the wasabi in the shoyu and I have always eaten the sushi skin-up. Received quite a lecture from a Japanese before, but it's a habit that I can't grow out of it just yet. =(
